Levi’s® Argentina is the local operation of one of the brands of clothing One of the most iconic and globally recognized brands, with over 170 years of history in the textile industry. Its value proposition combines a robust network of brick-and-mortar stores with an e-commerce platform that distributes its premium catalog of jeans, apparel, and accessories throughout the country. For an aspirational brand focused on the end consumer (D2C), the mobile channel represents the primary gateway to product discovery. Through its Evolutive Support service, Known Online optimized Levi’s® e-commerce platform with an approach 100% centered on the User Experience (UX), resolving one of the biggest visual obstacles in the mobile navigation flow.
The Challenge: Visual Friction and Loss of Screen Real Estate
In fashion e-commerce, a seamless visual browsing experience is crucial for conversion. However, the mobile version of the platform had a critical interaction design issue: the search bar was always displayed by default.
This structural persistence had a negative impact on the user experience:
- Interface Clutter: It took up valuable screen real estate on small screens, limiting the area dedicated to product display.
- Unnecessary cognitive load: By disrupting the site’s visual clarity, it hindered smooth, clean, and natural navigation through the various categories.
- Friction in Discovery: A static search engine did not interact with the user’s actual intent nor did it provide value before the user began typing.
The goal was to redesign this feature to improve usability, optimize screen space, and enhance the user experience during the search process.
The Evolutive Support Solution: UX Improvements
Known Online approached the project with a focus on the evolution of the mobile search component for Levi’s® Argentina. The scope included the redesign and implementation of the search engine on the mobile version of the e-commerce site, incorporating a two-tier experience architecture and integrating user behavior data.
The UX solution was designed to balance discovery, relevance, and efficient use of screen space, with a logic specifically tailored to the mobile context. As a result, the component no longer permanently occupied visual resources and began to function as a more flexible tool geared toward purchase intent.
- Diagnosing Mobile Usability Issues.
- Design of a search engine with two levels of interaction.
- Integration of behavioral cues to enhance the user experience.
- Implementation of collapse logic to free up screen space.
On the first level, when the user activates the search bar, they see the terms most frequently searched by the community, making it easier to discover popular products and reducing the effort required to navigate the site. On the second level, once the user enters their own search query, the component displays specific results corresponding to that term, while also maintaining visibility into the site’s frequent searches.
In addition, we implemented a collapsible search bar to free up screen space when it is not in active use, resolving the structural issue of visual clutter on mobile devices. The result was a more organized, functional experience that aligns with mobile shopping expectations.
The Results
Optimizing this UI/UX component had a direct impact on the quality of the brand’s digital customer journey:
- Frictionless interface: We achieved a much cleaner, more responsive, and more organized mobile navigation experience, in line with the standards of a premium brand.
- Higher discovery rate: By intelligently showcasing popular community searches, direct access to relevant products was made easier with fewer clicks.
- Seamless shopping experience: By reclaiming screen space, users can browse the catalog more comfortably, reducing the bounce rate on mobile devices.
From UX Improvement to Business Asset: The new architecture provides the Levi’s® Argentina team with direct insight into their users’ actual search intent. This behavioral data immediately became a key input for decisions regarding merchandising, inventory, and content strategy. As a result, the feature evolved from being merely an interface enhancement to becoming a source of actionable insights.
On mobile, every pixel counts. Efficient, evolutionary support recognizes that optimizing the user experience isn’t about adding more features, but about eliminating clutter. Designing a smart search engine reduces the buyer’s cognitive load while transforming a navigation tool into a channel for capturing high-value business data.
